KERA-TV in Dallas was the first PBS station to broadcast Monty Python's Flying Circus, and it was the Pythons' first stop in the US after the premier of Monty Python and the Holy Grail in Los Angeles in 1975. This interview footage first aired live on KERA that year, and hasn't been seen by the public since. It was discovered on an old reel that had been saved by an engineer, and as you can see, it cuts off after about 14 minutes... the engineer taped over the rest. It's a look at the group being candidly questioned by fans at the peak of their fame and creative powers.

Great website, I've been a fan of Monty Python for a long time. I saw Spamalot in the West End quite recently, and it was spectacular.

While it can't quite measure up, this is a highly amusing website in a similar vein to Monty Python, certainly very British humor oriented -

Give it a look, and see what you think.

Looking for a Monty Python movie of Sherlock Holmes with twin Dr. Watsons. The funniest movie I have ever seen. Anyone know the name of it or where we can purchase it? Thanks.

ILuvNUFC said...

Any more info? Was it the whole team as I don't remember it or maybe it was one of the many solo projects undertaken by some members of the team?

Gene Gardner said...

I remember it, but can't find references to it anywhere. As I recall, they kept playing with the "Elementary, my dear Watson" line with terrible puns linked to the scene: "A lemon tree, my dear Watson." "Alimentary, my dear Watson". etc. Ring any bells?

Gene Gardner said...

Found it!

Hey all. This definitely is the 'mother lode' of Python goodies but, alas, a few of the links are 'removed due to usage violation, blah blah, and acutely miss the 1975 one-off, found-in-the-dusty-arhives interview (dead link). Bummer. Was lucky enough to catch Sir Chapman on his 'standup lecture' tour in 1988 shortly before his untimely death. Have been looking for his 'dangerous stunt club' videos he presented ever since (hysterical - individuals 'skiing' downhill on everything BUT such as a grand piano, massive blow-up elephant, etc)

Nola said...

Can anyone help me? I'm looking for a radio ad, probably for The Life of Brian, but am not 100% sure. In this ad, someone's mother is persuading us to go see that movie because her son is playing in it and he needs to earn some money so that he could afford to pay for that retirement home she's staying at?

ewrosla said...

Nice site, its very good idea to put all those links in one place. I like Monthy Python humor very much. I think 'Holy grail' is the best - especially scene with black knight;)

Anonymous said...

Amazing site!

I have a question:

Does anybody know the sketch where a man is chased by a dozen of (topless) women and a voice says "This man is going to die. He has chosen his death". This man then falls of a cliff into his own grave where a lot of people and a vicar are awaiting him.
(I know, sounds a bit macabre)

Does anybody know this sketch? Is it even a Python sketch. Would be great if anybody could tell me that!
